Relict

The story of Relict's creation reflects the richness of its energy and connection to the earth. The client reached out to me with a dream of creating a memorial for her sister who recently passed. Not only does the sculpture imbue reverence to the past, its totemic ‘witnesses’ provide a place for reflection and inspiration. ‘Relict’ has multiple meanings, including; a widow or widower, a surviving species of an extinct group of organisms, a remnant of a formerly widespread species that persists in an isolated area, a relief feature or rock remaining after other parts have disappeared, something left unchanged, etc. The sculptures are laser cut from Cor-ten steel, sit within a 25’ limestone circle and are landscaped with native plantings. Budget $68K. Completed in 2024.
