Based in Des Moines, Iowa, Molly Spain studied at Slade School of Fine Art - University College London and at Iowa State University before receiving her BAFA from University of New Mexico in 1991. During her time at UNM, outdoor studio classes exposed her to the sculptural landscapes of the desert southwest and influenced her art focus in structure, history and travel. Molly’s art has been published in DSM Magazine, The Guardian, and The Atlantic’s CityLab. In 2021, she completed 'Critical Mass,' a painting that covers the entire exterior of the 5-story Mainframe Studios building in downtown Des Moines. She has exhibited at Olson Larsen Gallery, Grand View University, Polk County Heritage Gallery, Mainframe Studios, and additional locations in Des Moines, Santa Fe and Taos. Molly’s art is collected by Hubbell Realty, Des Moines Metro Opera, Surety Hotel, St. Kilda, and by numerous other public and private clients throughout the U.S.
